Ynel

“In Ynel there are four races: Dwarves, Elves, Humans and Dragons. Since the fall of the Dragon Swords the Dragons are very scarce and usually stick to hiding, much to the displeasure of the Dwarves, high in the mountains.

“The Dragon Swords started when the Humans came down from the ‘Far-Cold North’ and founded their first kingdom, Domin-Noll (The Kingdom of Noll). It was between the sea and the Ilk River that man laid his head in this new land. And when the Dragons came north from the their volcano they entered the same area as Man. Now Man, Dwarf and Elf alike were afraid of the mighty Dragons and so they waited until they received word from Jolwe (king of the Great Spirits [Belor]) on this matter. There was a meeting between all the Children of Iliar (that is God). And after the Elves and Dwarves left Man made a treaty with the Dragons and thus were the Dragon Swords formed. A magic pact was formed between the Dragons and Men. Babies would be picked while still in the womb and the baby would be born at the same time the Dragon’s egg would hatch. This caused an irreversible bond between the Dragon and Man.

“With the aid of the Dragons, Man moved quickly across the face of the Ynel. They tamed most lands except for the lands west of the Wandering River. These were controlled by Elves and Man could not enter. He called these lands Domin-Noldan (Kingdom of the Elves). During the years of peace the Dwarves and Elves were brought into the pact and made Dragon Swords. So did the Elves open their borders to have free commerce with Man and Dwarf alike.

“And in this time of peace the Great Spirit Beroh, who had turned evil, arose out of his domain on the face of Ynel. He made his domain and built his castle behind the Black Mountains thus the land was called Domin-Meil (Domain of Evil). There he brewed his hate for the Dragon Swords. In the end he devised that it was not by war that he would defeat the Dragon Swords (though up to this point there had been many bloody wars between his armies of Scrotes and the Dragon Swords), but by distrust between the Dragons and Men. So it was that he spread a rumor among man that the Dragons were trying to take more power from man that they could rule man. This caused the Order to crumble into ruin in only fifty-three years the Dragon Swords were gone but not before Beroh had angered Iliar who sent down the entirety of the army of the Great Spirits, lead by their chieftain Jolwe, on him. And Beroh was banished to the outer void. But the Dragon Swords could not pull themselves together; the rumor had done too much damage to them, and so they fell. Of the two that survived the fall of the order they disappeared from Ynel and were never seen again.

”Malevadet, Beroh’s Lieutenant who took his place in Domin-Meil, rejoiced at their ending. Their headquarters the Temple of Truth was taken over by the priests of Iliar. It was filled with the most powerful spell weavers in all of Ynel. Thus was the reason that in his immense wisdom King Ernal made his decree to leave it out of all people’s power. No government could order any law over it and all Children of Iliar dwelt there.

“Dwarves are able to live freely among men, though they are not bound by man’s laws. They live by the laws of the mountain as they always have. Even though they are free to live among men, Dwarves have become very scarce in human cities outside of the Karin Valley, since the fall of the Dragon Swords. Since there are only two small towns in the Karin Valley they are almost never seen by men. Elves on the other hand have been seen more and more on the east side of the Wandering River.

“Elves dislike the Dragons very much. Some believe that is for vain reasons, because the elves are a beautiful race and the Dragons (at least in the view of the populace) are not. The Elves in fact see the Dragons as no more than large beasts that do not deserve the name ‘race.’ This has caused much strife between the Dragons and elves and made the Elves happy at the fall of the Dragon Swords. Even though many Elvish eyes had been opened to the truth, the general belief still holds for the people as a whole.

“Since the fall (of the Dragon Swords) the elves will allow some men to penetrate their borders but only with a guard of elves to make sure of the safety of their kingdom. The only men aloud to into the halls of the Noldan (elves) freely are those of the country Domin-Molak. For the man who founded the first city, Hidel it was named after him who founded it, loved elves and so found the closest area he could live with the most forest. Since he was so kind to them they made him the first ‘Elf-Friend’ or ‘Getum ni Calori.’ All who now live there may enter the sacred Halls of The Noldan.”

                                                                            Ynel

Ynel means "Earth" in Dwarvish. It is the evolution of a long drawn out story of an Island originally named Grenast. The Island still exists in Ynel its name has been changed though to Noll. This is because of the significance that the name is supposed to be the same as the first Country founded by humans after they moved down from the "Far Cold North."
